Dawlish Bowling Club (referred to as “The Lawn”) is the older of the 2 Bowling Clubs in Dawlish. It was founded in 1907, and the current clubhouse that you see before you today was opened in 1924. It is reputedly on the site of the former greenhouses belonging to the Dawlish Town Council. The current building has been upgraded over the years which has included an extension to allow for a ladies changing area, the refurbishing of a store for the green maintenance equipment and a complete rebuild of the club’s bar.
The Bowling Club which is situated right within the heart of Dawlish really does have so much to offer. It welcomes guests and always encourages new members to take up the sport of Bowls.
To find out more about how you can get involved please visit: http://www.dawlishbowls.co.uk/
We are located near to the seafront but not actually on the Pier and within 100 yards of the town centre
We are a mixed club of around 20 ladies and 45 men playing members with a wide age range and around 80 associate members and 1 very important Patron.
The ladies play in the South Devon Ladies League and with the men playing in the Mid-Devon League currently in the Second Division but this season !! who knows!! ( update – the MDL squad are champions of Division 2 and have gained promotion to the 1st Division!!!) and we have two teams in the Over 55’s leagues. The ‘X’ team were winners of their Division for 2013 and were 3rd overall in the Over 55’s. (Update – The ‘X’ team have won their division again and will contest the overall Championship later in September)
We also entertain a number of touring teams during the summer and feel very privileged that they have chosen our club to compete against on their tour. We make them as welcome as possible and ensure the bar is well stocked.
We are also the home of the Teignmouth Open Bowls Tournament. For more information and to enter the Tournament please go to the Tournament
During the summer months we also have a number of visitors to the town who try bowls for their first time and will hopefully return home and contact their local club. We are aware that the impression they get from us will affect their future possible membership.
